What is your definition
of a beach? Is it a place where you sunbath in 70 degree weather? Or the one
place where friends and family get together for a good camping trip?
The summer of 3rd grade, I and a lot of my friends and their
families took a camping trip to Sandy beach, Oregon. It became kind of a
tradition for us until we all entered middle school, by then everyone was too
busy to go so we stopped it. Anyway, Sandy Beach is not the kind of beach like
those in California which is right next door. It normally is 70 degrees and
sunny 24/7 which is why we stayed in yurts instead of tents. On days when it
was sunny we went down to the beach and built massive sand castles as tall as
we were, back then I was probably about four feet tall. You might be debating
over whether or not this is possible, and to answer that, yes we truly did
build a sand castle that big, but had help from one of the dads who was a
professional architect/engineer. He also helped us climb a really steep cliff
which had a type of stone on top that we could engrave our names on.
This beach has had some movies that were filmed there
like “Free willy” and “The Goonies.” I know this because there is a very
familiar rock formation called Castle rock which is in several scenes in “Free
Willy” and “The Goonies.” That was the first time I had ever seen an actual
place where two famous movies were filmed.
Seaside and Newport Aquarium are both places I went for 8th
grade field trips. Seaside is a town full of shops and a beach right beside it
and Newport Aquarium has lots of cool marine life there. There are many other
events but these are what make this trip the most memorable.
