The Everglades trip 2014 trey mitchell

The Everglades trip 2014

Hello everyone! For our first expedition we went to the Everglades and canoed there. When we are getting ready to go on an ex. the staff will make us a packing list. And we will pack everything on that list and put it all into our ex packs after they check us off. After we pack our bags we will pack all the bags into the back of the van or trailer. It will depend on what kind of trailer we have. And it will depend what ex we are doing. If we are doing a canoeing trip we will have a canoe trailer and if we are doing a road trip we will have a box trailer. When we are going on a canoeing trip we will have dry bags for all our clothes on the water and we will also have buckets for all our food. And we will also have PFDs and paddles. When we went canoeing in the Everglades we did a 39 mile loop. The canoeing part was easy at first but when we got to the longer days and longer miles it was harder but you know what I fought through it and so did the group. After we went canoeing we went to swim with manatees. North house was the first group to swim with them. After we swam with manatees we did a service project. The project was to help the Florida PARK SERVICE with cleaning out sea lettuce out of a sink hole. Then we went back to NC.

Expedition 1 was amazing. We saw lots of amazing wildlife. We saw king Fishers, Ibises, and tons of Dolphins.  We got plenty of pictures and videos, we even swam with Manatees. It was not that hard paddling, except for the 11 and ½ paddle day. We enjoyed lots of good food and paddled really close to dolphins. We relaxed and explored, and also heard creepy noises and dissected a Puffer fish. We were really cold and we were in freakin Florida.

Erika 1st expedition Everglades

The Florida Everglades is about as back country as it gets. We have to bring our own water and food and protect it with our lives. Its very hard and very stressful but then there are those small things that make the trip worthwhile. There are wild dolphins that are so playful they come right up to your canoe and show off. It is so entertaining. You can’t get a show like that at sea world. It’s a once in a lifetime experience and I was lucky enough to be able to see it. My most favorite part of the whole trip though is staying at a beach site and sitting around a campfire. There’s something about fires that makes you feel so secure and all your worries and thoughts are at ease. It is so relaxing and to be on an island with white sand just makes it so much better. I’m so incredibly grateful to say that I as able to do all these things.
